Beautiful lot of 5 kokeshi dolls , made of turned wood, hand painted with flowers and lines, a combination of Naruko and Yajiro Kokeshi dolls, Japan, ca 70-80s, they are signed at the bottom by the maker.
This lot involves 5 exceptionally large kokeshi dolls, they come in a variety of sizes, the largest from this lot is over 36cm tall, the smallest 26cm!
Specific areas have different types of kokeshi, they can be roughly divided into 11 different types, each with a distinctive shape or style. These dolls are very popular with collectors, also they are said to bring good luck which makes them extra popular! Very nice objects to decorate a children's room or living room with.
What are kokeshi dolls anyway? Kokeshi originate from Japan and they are simple wooden dolls without arms or legs that have been made as toys for children for over 150 years. They are hand-turned from wood and have a simple body and head with a few thin painted lines to define the face. The body often has flowers and ring designs.

Dimensions: the smallest kokeshi measures 26cm tall, the largest measures 36cm tall. Diameter of the head goes from 8 to 10cm, diameter of the body goes from 4.5 to 7.5cm.
