Artifort Ribbon chair: up to 80% off at Whoppah!
The Ribbon by Artifort is an armchair with a special ribbon shape, designed in 1966. The chair is made of a feather-light metal tubular frame and has horizontal suspension and rests on a base of gray lacquered wood. The seat is filled with molded foam and covered with a sleek, elastic fabric – completely Artifort.
Anyone who knows Artifort knows Pierre Paulin. The industrial designer studied sculpture, and it shows. All chairs that come out of his hands are true sitting sculptures, including the Ribbon Chair. Paulin received the American Industrial Design Award in 1969 for this special design and in November 2009 he even posthumously received the British award 'Royal Designer For Industry'. At Whoppah, too, we think Paulin's work is worthy of applause – or a ribbon, that's fine too.
The Artifort Ribbon is a design classic. The design therefore adorns the collections of several museums, including the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. Due to the high demand, the armchair is also still being produced. The Ribbon is therefore available in countless colours, including the orange, red and bright blue characteristic of Artifort. Yet the design is rarely offered second-hand: once you have a Ribbon at home, you can't just let it go.
Looking for the iconic Ribbon chair? On Whoppah you will find a lot of pre-owned Artifort designs, curated on authenticity and condition. This way you are assured of the best quality.
