A sofa that will last for generations
Say 'Italian designer sofa' and you think 'Maralunga'. This particular design dates back to 1974 and is still one of the most famous sofas in the world. Produced to this day by Italian brand Cassina, the Maralunga was designed by Vico Magistretti (more about him later). His desire was to create a quality, comfortable design with the Maralunga. One that will last for generations.
In 1979, Cassina won a Compasso d'Oro award for the design of the Maralunga. This is the most prestigious award for industrial design in Italy - and as far as we are concerned, the Maralunga more than deserved this award. Indeed, the sofa is truly a milestone in Italian design.
Did you know...
In 2014, Cassina decided to revive the original design. So currently, the Maralunga is available first- and second-hand. The difference with the 1974 design is minimal and you can see it mainly in the materials used. Our preference is for the vintage edition, though. But that's just because a bit of history is extra comfortable.

From the hands of grand maestro Magistretti
Vico Magistretti is the man behind this fantastic design. This world-famous Italian designer was the son of an architect and worked in architecture himself for a time. In the 1950s, his interest shifted from urban design to industrial design.
His first success came in 1959 with the design of Cassina's Carimate, a wooden chair with bright red armrests. Magistretti's designs are now world-famous and can be seen in numerous museums, including the MoMa in New York.
