Early in his career, Gammelgaard worked as a furniture designer for several Danish companies, including Fritz Hansen and IKEA. In 1973, he founded his own design studio, Gammelgaard Design, where he created furniture for companies such as Ikea, Bang & Olufsen, and Magnus Olesen. Gammelgaard is best known for his work on chairs. His creations are characterized by minimalist, functional design and the use of high-quality materials. His "Delta" chair, designed in 1984 for the Danish company Fredericia Furniture, has become an icon of Danish design. The chair is known for its delta-shaped backrest, which ensures great seating comfort. In addition to his work in furniture design, Gammelgaard also taught at the Royal Danish School of Fine Arts. He has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Bo Bedre prize in 1985 and the ID prize in Japan in 1986. Jorgen Gammelgaard has marked the history of Danish design with his timeless, innovative creations.
