Product description
Vase with cosmetics oil on canvas Dimensions: 55cm x 45cm Recently cleaned and cleaned by a professional The work of Wout Schram is counted among the New Objectivity. The painters belonging to this movement strived for the most objective possible representation of reality. In this still life, Schram has painted the flowers, leaves and glass vase with utmost refinement. The light over the vase is striking. Wouter Jorinus Bernardus Antonius 'Wout' Schram was born in Amsterdam on November 17, 1895 as the only son of wealthy parents. He was a student at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, led by D.L. Dake, A.J. Derkinderen and N. van der Waay and also from Kl. of lions. He painted, watercolored and drew still lifes, portraits, figures, nudes and made lithographs. In the large and important exhibition Magic and Objectivity in 1999/2000, in Arnhem, in addition to the great Magic Realists such as Willink, Koch, Ket, Hynckes and Schuhmacher, 50 other figuratives were shown, including Wout Schram. After the Second World War, when realism fell into disrepute, Schram confined himself mainly to painting portraits. He settled in Laren in 1952 and in his free paintings he used a looser touch. His works are best known from the 1930s. The aforementioned exhibition in Arnhem has been of inestimable importance for the rediscovery of the smaller magic realist and new business masters. The exhibition has done much for the revaluation of figuration, which dominated the art image of that time in the thirties. He was a member of Arti et Amicitae, De Gooise Painters Association and won the St.Lucas Prize. Works were purchased by, among others, the Stedelijk van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and the Singer Museum in Laren. He died in Laren in the year 1987.
