I consider myself a self-taught artist. Despite this (and with the greatest respect) my uncle partly instilled in me a passion for wood sculpting during my youth ('70s).
At the end of the last century, the unique diptych of years of collaboration between the Congolese artist Mbungu (RDC) and myself as a non-professional sculptor followed.
The unfinished, rough, rough wood shapes were further finished by me here after drying for at least 10 years. All statues are chiselled and sanded by hand.
Not obvious because they are all made of hardwood, namely Wengé or Iroko. Two very hard, bone-hard tropical woods.
After hours, days, weeks and sometimes months of work, the satisfaction follows: a fantastic, unparalleled patina.
