Product description
Wim Stil grew up in Zwolle. At the beginning of World War II, he was put to work as a forced laborer in Germany. In the moments when he was free, he received his first lessons in the visual arts there from a teacher at the Berlin Art Academy. He returned to Holland in 1945 and went to work at an advertising agency in Amsterdam as an illustrator. After his studies at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and his police training in Amsterdam, he went to work for the Rijks Voorlichtingen Dienst (RVD) in 1949 as a designer of exhibitions and government printed matter. In 1954 he transferred to The Royal Shell, sales department, where he would work for the rest of his life as a regular designer and illustrator. At Shell he designed exhibitions, handled the design of outdoor advertisements and was the regular illustrator of the Shell magazine Voeksnieuws.
