Product description
"Weighing" is the name of this sturdy sculpture. A sturdy granite pedestal plate gives support to a stepping stone form that would tip due to its weight if not for a native oak counterbalance.
The sloping concavity of the springstone gives lightness but also transparency. The polished tongue cavity leaves something of the solidified interior of the stone. The oak arch, with its opposite curve, creates both a space and a cover. The weight is important to keep the whole thing balanced.
In my work, I often look for a combination of stone and wood. In a way where there is a certain tension between those different materials. The natural appearance of the material in terms of color and breakage, I try to show where possible.
In Rotterdam I take sculpture classes with Kees Buckens. Working three-dimensionally is a stimulus for me and gives a lot of satisfaction. And preferably with the primal materials of the sculptor - stone and wood.
