Product description
A paperweight is an object that can be placed on a desk on papers, to prevent them from blowing away this goes way back in time, in Egypt they were already using paperweights. The word comes from French and is also pronounced that way. In French, presse-papiers is written in the singular and plural. In Dutch, one only writes an extra s in the plural, which is not pronounced. A paperweight is often made of metal, glass or stone. It is usually not too big, so it can easily be stored in a drawer. It does need some weight. A paperweight is used less and less, partly because the windows in modern offices usually cannot be opened. In earlier centuries, when the paperweight was a common utensil, efforts were often made to make the object as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Later, it also became an art object. Eventually the paperweight fell into disuse, but is still made only as an art object with no functional value. Therefore, the modern paperweight has become a collector's item and often designed especially for collectors. More modern materials are also used here, such as polyester, laser-engraved crystal and the like. In the years after paperweights came into use, these objects were further developed into snow globes.
