Instruments of the Orchestra
The Xylophone and The Tubular Bells
Boosey & Hawkes Limited, London: c. 1950s to 1960s
ca. 42 x 55.5 cm
Very rare poster. You can search for them on the internet and it is unlikely that you will find this poster on the market.
This poster was issued as part of the series Instruments of the Orchestra, published by Boosey & Hawkes and edited by Captain Meredith Roberts, Director of Music at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall.
The poster is in a streamlined illustrational style typical of the Fifties and early Sixties, features an instrument with an outline figure of a musician playing it against a solid colored ground. The music instrument stands out in the poster. Please have a look at the pictures.
The name of the instrument is given in different languages, and a musical staff shows its range. The poster is made of thick paper and has a thin metal batten at top and bottom, as issued. The poster was probably made for advertising in music stores or for classroom decoration.
Boosey & Hawkes was created from a merger of two venerable English companies in 1930 and remains a leading music publisher and musical instrument manufacturer.
Full publication information: Boosey & Hawkes Limited, 295 Regent Street, London, W.1.
Some scratches on the poster at the left side. Barely noticed. Please have a look at the pictures.
