Product description
Exquisite table signed by José Luis Capitaine (1925-2001). In a small landscape format, this still life represents dozens of red cherries. The fruits are accompanied by a glass bowl with water, to clean them before eating them. The blue background contrasts with the intense red of the cherries. Present in this background a central point of light, which adds atmosphere to the composition, somewhat theatrical. This artist was widely known in Valladolid, the city where he settled and developed his professional career. His artistic production focused on the genre of portrait, landscape and still life, always with a personal realism, fleeing then from the abstract avant-garde, prevailing in the city. Capitaine does not paint reality as it is, but rather gives room to the imagined. This can be seen in his still lifes, where sometimes the objects do not rest comfortably on their corresponding support plane, or even invade the space of another neighboring object. Liberties that the artist takes in order to be able to express something more than mere reality.
