René Genis was a French painter. Known for his translucent use of color in depicting landscapes and still lifes. Genis' work undulates between developed forms and areas of flat color. His compositions create a distinctive harmony between the depicted scene and the formal properties of the paint, emphasizing its material properties while taking into account the carefully observed details of the real world. Born in 1922 in Hue, French Indochina (Vietnam), Genis and his parents moved back to Bordeaux, France when he was still young. He then studied art at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris under Albert Marquet, where he met other artists and began exhibiting his work. Genis's paintings are mainly in French collections such as the Aix-en-Provence Museum, but are also held internationally at the Yamagata Museum in Tokyo. The artist died in 2004 in Paris.
Work done on BFK Rives paper. This popular high-quality graphics paper is molded in France. It has a smooth, absorbent surface. Rives papers, made of 100% cotton, are acid-free, soft and buffered. Each sheet is signed with a watermark. BFK are the initials of the owners of the Rives mill in France at the beginning of the 19th century - Blanchet Frères and Kiebler.
