Product description
DESCRIPTION: A very unique West germany vase designed and produced by Dumbler and Breiden. More about this duo later. This beautiful brutalist vase has a unique texture and color, this texture was created through their own designed technique and chemical reactions. With this vase they added the unique detail of the thick rope. The vase is glazed inside and can be used with water. The vase is from around 1960/1970. All vases designed by Dumbler and Breiden are of very high quality and original in design. BACKGROUND OF DUMBLER AND BREIDEN: West Germany Dumler & Breiden 1883-1995 The factory started production in 1883 and was located in Höhr-Grenzhausen, a place that became known for its many ceramic factories. The founders were Peter Dümler and his brother-in-law Albert Breiden. Peter was a designer and had been trained by Reinhold Hanke & Simon Peter Gerz. Albert, who had been trained by his uncle S.P. Gerz ran the company. In the beginning, much traditional pottery was produced such as beer jugs, punchbowls and mugs. After the war, during the "ceramics boom" of the 1950s and 1960s, the company went through a period of strong growth. D&B was one of the leading ceramic factories from 1930 to the end of 1980. Production of beer jugs was greatest between 1890s and the 1930s. Production of beer jugs ceased in 1957. A series of special vases were designed and can be recognized by the mark "RELIEF" on the bottom. In the late 1960s they developed a copper-colored glaze, which incorporates fine copper particles. In the light, it gives a sparkle effect. Dümler & Breiden was very successful but lagged behind the market leaders of the time Ruscha and Scheurich. The company closed its doors in 1995. Designers employed by Dümler & Breiden, in addition to Peter Dümler, include: Paul Zimmerling, Rudolf Christmann, Rudolf Kügler and Albin Camillo Müller.
