This is a coffee table from the 1960s by renowned Norwegian designer Torbjørn Afdal. The model is called "Sari'' and is made of high-quality rosewood, a protected type of wood that is no longer allowed to be processed.
Torbjørn Afdal (1917-1999) was chief designer at Bruksbo Tegnekontor. His designs are characterized by minimalist design and optimal use of material and form.
This table my father (who traveled to Norway in winter to sell flower bulbs) took with him to Holland in his car in 1966. Since then, this was our coffee table at home. It is made of rosewood; the top is veneered and the sides and legs are solid. In the middle is a pull-out black gloss formica top.
L x W X H = 155 x 70 x 50. Including the intermediate leaf, the length of the table is 210 cm.
Since there were obviously signs of use, we had the table restored and repainted by a certified restorer. The grain and texture of the wood now come out beautifully again.
