Oil on panel, 40*60 cm (58*78) Tilly Moes (1899-1979), born Sofia Theodora van Driel, was a Dutch painter known for her flower still lifes. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and later married the painter Nicolaas Bruijnesteijn. Mainly she painted flowers in vases, often in collaboration with her husband, and her work was in great demand, even during the difficult economic times of the 1930s. After her husband's death, she continued to paint and sold much of her work internationally, especially to the United States. This still life exudes a quiet, classic atmosphere with warm, muted colors. The flowers range from soft cream tones to deep reds, creating a subtle color contrast. The dark background highlights the floral arrangement, while the blue details in the vase and flowers provide balance. The composition is central and well balanced, with a natural dynamic created by the hanging flowers. The ornate gold frame adds elegance to the piece.
