Full name Theo W.M. Mackaay Born Utrecht, the Netherlands, November 19, 1950 Country of birth The Netherlands Profession(s) sculptor, musician Mackaay grew up in Utrecht. In 1970 he began training as a stonemason there, laying the foundation for further development as a sculptor. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy from 1972 to 1976 and at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam from 1977 to 1979. Since 1980 he has worked as an independent artist, both as a sculptor and as a painter. Mackay's style can be described as deformative figurative, with sources of inspiration including Pablo Picasso, Marino Marini and Ossip Zadkine. In 1980 he designed the Golden Calf, the trophy awarded during the Dutch Film Festival. The trophy awarded by the BV Popprijs is also a design by Mackaay from 1984. Other awards designed by him include the encouragement award for companies on keeping chronically ill people employed (1996) and an award for the Xena Foundation. In 2005, he traveled to China, where he would work for 2.5 years, resulting in several large bronze sculptures. Mackaay exhibits at home and abroad and had several solo exhibitions at Morren Galleries in Amsterdam and Utrecht, the Carlton Hotel in Cannes (2015) and the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam (2016), among others. Musician In addition to being a visual artist, Mackaay is also a musician. In the 1970s, he was a guitarist and singer in Lenny Kuhr's backing band. Since the late 1970s, as a singer, guitarist and composer, he was part of the socially critical Dutch-language group Braak,[1] with whom he made four LPs: Demos, Suite for a Hypochondriac, Heldenkermis and Ik weet wat je lust. He played as a singer and guitarist in studio sessions and was featured in commercials. In 2016, his album With Heaven You Never Know was released. GOLDEN CALF The Golden Calf, the Grand Prize of Dutch Film, has been awarded annually since the first edition of the Netherlands Film Festival in 1981 to the best Dutch filmmakers, screenwriters, producers and actors, among others, and is a design by Theo Mackaay. Its current images are between 7,500 and 30,000 euros. This golden calf is between 35 and 40 years old, for as long as it has been in our possession. An "early" calf, therefore. Only for sale due to lack of space by moving. Deserves a nice place. Nowadays you see them with a different base, this is the model which is also in the Museum in Amersfoort, on an approximately 2 cm high plinth. The plinth is hollow. Bronze, heavy. Beautiful plastic. Phenomenal design. Size with plinth approx 37 cm. high, 25 cm. long and 16 cm. deep. For condition; see photos.

Given its age, the bronze is partially patinated. Please look closely at the photos for the condition of the statue.
