Magnificent artistic photo by the great Belgian photographer Victor Elschansky (1913-1981) This beautiful photo was taken around 1950 with very fine effects as you can see, very avant-garde for its time. Dimensions : 40cm x 26 Artist biography Victor (Vitja) Elschansky was born in Schmérinka (Vinnytsia district) in the USSR on July 12, 1913. A Jew, he fled the pogroms and left the USSR. He settled in Belgium and worked for the "Belga" press agency. During the Second World War, as a Jew, he was arrested and imprisoned in the Breendonk concentration camp (Belgium). At the end of the war, trained as a chemist, he embarked on a successful engineering career, working as a scientific translator for the Solvay Company. But his real passion was photography. At the end of the war, he became a member of numerous clubs and joined a new wave and/or generation of artists (photographers, painters). This "Subjectif Fotografie" movement, led by Otto Steinert, spread all over the world. Numerous books and exhibitions (USA, Japan, Europe) put the movement on the map. Victor Elschansky's name appears in numerous publications. A permanent member of the E.F.I.A.P (Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique), Victor Elschansky died of a heart attack in Brussels on January 28, 1981.
