Stéphane Gautier, born in 1973 in France, impressively illuminates our childhood memories, their symbols and the veneration they evoke in his works. He created his first work of art at the age of 13 by sticking toys on a canvas and painting them. This early provocation, later rediscovered, touches all those who find their own past in these affective objects. Gautier's art is a constant displacement of traditional art forms. He plays with childhood symbols in an adult context, questions the means of representation and the influence of advertising as well as the glorification of childhood through ironic distance.
Stéphane Gautier is a contemporary pop artist who specializes in prints, paintings and sculptures. His works are characterized by the use of well-known brand logos such as Chanel, Dior, Elle and Vogue in vibrant colors that playfully address consumer identity. A recurring element in Gautier's art are gummy bears, which he uses as nostalgic symbols of childhood. His "Happy Bears" series presents hand-painted aluminum alloy models of these sweets, arranged in a grid over cultural symbols such as Hello Kitty and the Statue of Liberty. These works, known for their intense colors, are intended to evoke strong emotional responses and have been exhibited internationally in galleries and at art fairs.
