Product description
X Line - DF 2000 sixties space age cabinet with drawers - designed by Raymond Loewy for Doubinsky Frères.
This beautiful cabinet with drawers is in well kept vintage condition with normal traces of use and no deep scratches in the plastic fronts.
In 1965, the designer created the DF 2000 plastic chest of drawers, the DF 2000 desk and the X-Line sideboard (1960s) particularly known for their original pop colors.
The stunning DF 2000 cabinet is an example of modern space age design in its purest form and produced by the French company Doubinsky Frères in the sixties. The choice of materials, particularly the use of plastic, was groundbreaking during its time. Pushing the boundaries of traditional furniture design. The molded plastic drawers have a gradient color pattern from dark brown to a softer tone cream color.
Raymond Loewy, the designer was born in Paris in 1893 and died in 1986. At a very young age, he became passionate about design and won his first prize at the Gordon Bennett aeronautical cup at the age of 15. In 1919, Loewy moved to the United States. He became a window dresser in New York, a fashion illustrator for Vogue and artistic director of Westinghouse. Finally he founded his own design agency, working for major brands such as Shell, Coca-Cola, Loreal, LU and even Monoprix. After becoming a naturalized American citizen, he designed the Lucky Strike cigarette package in 1940.
In 1980, he retired after an impressive career.
