This exceptional set of four bentwood beech chairs, produced by the renowned manufacturer Thonet, features the iconic Model 17, more commonly known as "Long John." Designed by Michael Thonet himself in the 19th century and updated over the decades, the Model 207 is part of the legacy of Thonet’s famous bentwood collection, which revolutionized furniture design through the innovative steam-bending of wood.
Thonet, an Austrian company founded in 1819, is credited with transforming furniture into functional works of art. This set, produced probably beetwen the 1960s - 1970s, reflects the company's ongoing commitment to combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities. These chairs are particularly admired for their graceful curves and simplicity, embodying the functional elegance of mid-century modern design.
Featured in several design catalogues and recognized for their timeless appeal, Thonet’s Model 17 chairs have become a staple in both modernist and classic design collections.
