It was George Nelson himself, a prominent representative of mid-20th-century American modernism, who first compared the Coconut Chair to an eighth of a coconut. But in terms of colors, the iconic and spacious armchair looks more like a coconut turned inside out: the outside of the plastic shell is white while the comfortable, one-piece seat shell is upholstered in high-quality leather or textiles in a variety of colors.
