Product description
Fantastic pair of Ghyczy garden eggs in a red plastic shell with white seat covers. The seat cushions of both armchairs have been reupholstered in a white cotton fabric. The shells are in very good condition, no splinters on the edge of the shells. Both hinges fit perfectly and are not broken. Only slight signs of wear on the lower edge of the shell. On one of the armchairs, a chip is visible on the top of the lid. The lid of this armchair serves as a backrest when unfolded. This piece of furniture is a work of art in the style of the Space Age and a highlight in any room or in the garden.
Peter Ghyczy designed this chair at the end of the 1960s for Gottfried Reuter, owner of the Elastogran Manufaktur. When this company was sold to BASF, production of the chair went to East Germany and it was nicknamed the Senftenberger Ei. An important piece of German design history.
