Education:
Quraish trained at the Baghdad Academy of Art.
He lives and works in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
Quraish decided to leave Iraq in 1994 and moved to the Netherlands. In his art, Quraish puts the process of making central; his work is the result of combining the attitude of a child and an artist: spontaneity meets caution. Quraish works with a variety of materials and techniques: he applies surface with and then scratches in plaster, cement and glue with talcum powder. Over the layers of paint, he rubs a layer of wax before the work is finally finished. Quraish draws inspiration from "primal" cultures: symbolism from African peoples, myths from Mesopotamia. This is reflected in the inscriptions and numbers, which suggest a poetic timelessness.
