Renée de Vries, born in 1959, has been drawing and painting since childhood, inspired by her uncle, Limburg visual artist Ru de Vries. She briefly attended the Rietveld Academie but learned most from Amstelveen artist Dirk Annokkee, with whom she was a '1-on-1' apprentice from 1983-1987. Her work does not follow a fixed style, yet it maintains a unique character. She creates colorful pieces as well as works in black/white/gray and blue tones. Her art often abstracts reality on the canvas, ranging from figurative/realistic to abstract. After living in Leiden for 23 years and running three galleries with atelier there, she moved to The Hague in 2022, where she now has her studio at home.
