EXPANDED INFORMATION Bjørn Wiinblad, born in Copenhagen in 1918, was a prolific Danish artist and designer known for his whimsical and romantic style. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1943. In 1946, Wiinblad began his career at Nymølle, a Danish pottery company he would later own. By 1952, he had established his own design studio and soon began collaborating with the prestigious German porcelain manufacturer, Rosenthal. In 1957, Wiinblad became Rosenthal's chief designer, allowing him to travel extensively and gain international recognition. Unlike the functionalist trends of his time, Wiinblad's work was characterized by rich colours, flowing lines, and fairy-tale inspirations. His designs for Rosenthal, such as the "Zauberflöte" series (1959), inspired by Mozart's opera, and the "1001 Nacht" series (1969), are particularly notable. Wiinblad also made significant contributions to the "Romance" (1959) and "Quatre Couleurs" (1960s) collections. Aside from ceramics, Wiinblad was a versatile artist. He created posters for the American Embassy in Paris in 1947 and designed costumes and sets for the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, including productions like "Lysistrata" (1949), "Undine" (1962), and "The Swineherd" (1969). Wiinblad's works are housed in major museums globally, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. He passed away in 2006, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of art and design. Don't miss the opportunity to acquire these rare collector's items and add a touch of vintage elegance to your home!
