Rob Scholte (1958) is a Dutch artist. He studied at the Minerva Academy in Groningen, the Vrije Academie in The Hague and finally at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Later he was part of the artist initiative W139, an exhibition space on Warmoesstraat for artists who wanted to offer an alternative to the (in their view) uniform offering of museums and galleries. Scholte's work is characterized by the fact that he places existing images from the media and advertising in a new context, giving them a new meaning. The artist also plays with our ideas about what is real, unique and authentic.
