He has a series of exhibitions behind him, each time with quirky catalogs appearing. Van Iersel is very curious about materials, about media and about life itself. As an eighteen-year-old, he designs posters for pop concerts at the Effenaar. He draws comics, plays drums in Der Junge Hund and creates his first large colorful expressionist paintings. "Nothing is mine, everything comes from something or someone" are words of Rik van Iersel that illustrate his fascination with the world around him and he expresses this fascination in his work.
