Fully restored mid-century design lounge chair. Made by the Gelli in the 1950s.
The frame is made of rosewood with rich and deep color and beautiful markings. The one-piece seat follows the elegant curves of the frame. The frame has been completely taken apart and repaired and reinforced. Sanded, cleaned, oiled and waxed. The seat frame has been stripped. New foam, fiber padding and reupholstered with Merino wool teddy fabric.
The chair has several stamps and labels. The labels under the chair were kept visible, while the stamps and labels on the seat frame were covered with the upholstery.
It even has the original customs stamps on the cruzeiro, which was the Brazilian currency from 1942 to 1964. A date on one of the labels suggests it was made in 1957.
Gelli Moveis," is considered to be the first furniture factory in Petropolis (Rio de Janeiro), widely produced for Brazilian homes since the last decade of the 19th century. Gelli's pieces have contributed to the history of Brazilian furniture.
