Product description
This Dutch chair from the 40s/50s is absolutely unique. Special in every way, including its shape and history. It is an ultimate example of minimalist and functional design, as Dutch designers and furniture makers liked it in this period.
Yet this chair does not really fit into a traditional chair category,
because of its historical purpose;
In the 1940s-50s, this model was known as a UKG (ultra-short wave) chair because it was used in medical institutions for high-frequency electrotherapeutic treatments.
This explains the shape of the chair and the materials used. Namely, the chair (because of the UKG) had to be completely metal-free and have removable armrests. Therefore, the chair had a plywood seat (glued - no screws), ash wood base and smooth, chilly skai upholstery.
Because ultra-short wave has long since been replaced by better techniques, these chairs can only be found in some museums* and perhaps still in a dusty hospital basement somewhere.
* see Foundation for the History of Physical Therapy
However, this specimen has been "saved" and turned into a special object.
Because of aging material / glue, some screws have been invisibly placed at the bottom of the seat.
But what makes the chair truly exclusive and gives it the necessary grandeur is the luxurious bouclé upholstery.
Thus, this chair will be able to be kept 'in style' and function as a special Eyecatcher with a serious story.
