Splash of colours! Empire, painted in yellow, a design by the Swiss Argentinian designer Alfredo Häberli for Quodes. Only 5 were made in this version: the construction is invisible, only visible at the rear and completely finished in a semi-gloss lacquer.
However, this method of building and painting was very labor intensive and required even more craftsmanship, for an already extremely complex cabinet to build: it consists of 21 different panels, all with different angles.
This cabinet was used for photography, stood in a showroom for a while and then stored in our warehouse. Some minor signs of use.
The design has been exhibited in, among others, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich (Switzerland) and the Kunsthalle in Cologne (Germany). Articles about Empire have been published worldwide and a French journalist from Le Figaro characterized Empire as ' Design Pur'!
Indicative new price for this unique version EUR 4500, now EUR 1950.
Colour: semi-gloss RAL 1003 signal yellow. Material: lacquered MDF.
Dimensions: 200 cm high, 45 cm wide and 35 cm deep.
Quote from the designer: “Again, I am fond of books. With Empire I wanted to create a very small bookshelf (or for other things), one that you have in a corridor, behind your bed, in a corner, placed just inconspicuous in a space. In the meantime, Empire is a vertical sculpture full of books.”Some very minor paint damage. Will be carefully touched with a paint marker.
