BiographyFinnish designer, best known for his lighting designs. Nummi studies maths and physics at university following World War II and in 1950, studied decorative painting at the Institute of Applied Arts in Helsinki. Between 1950 and 1975, he worked as a lighting designer for the Finnish Stockmann-Orno luminaire factory specialising in the use of acrylic, a relatively new material. From 1958 until 1975, he also worked as head designer at Schildt & Hallbertg's Tikkurila paint factory, producing innovative colour charts. He was awarded gold medals at the Milan Triennales of 1954 and 1957
