Piet Warffemius (born 1956) is a Dutch visual artist. He trained in the painting department at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His specialization was monumental (wall painting). He was a pupil of Aart Roos and Auke de Vries, among others.
Since 1980, Warffemius has traveled extensively and incorporates the impressions and insights he gains into his work. Especially tribal art from Africa and Oceania influences his work. From the late 1990s Warffemius' work becomes considerably more austere and he tries to achieve maximum effect with minimal means. After an experience in the Himalayas, he realized that as a child he already had a strong fascination with nature. This connection is reflected in series of paintings and sculptures in which trees take center stage.
Together with Sjoerd Buisman and Armando, among others, Piet Warffemius is part of the Potsdamer Gruppe, a group of befriended German and Dutch artists who regularly exhibit together.
This silkscreen is a beautiful large work, which is still in excellent condition. As you can see, this work also depicts an abstract tree. The work is hand signed by the artist.
