Product description
Paul Kostabi USA (1962)
Litho 70cm x 50cm
Primarily known as a musician, producer, and sound engineer for rock and psychedelic bands such as Youth Gone Mad, White Zombie, and Psychotica, Paul Kostabi is also an avid painter. Kostabi channels the creative freedom he finds in music into brightly colored canvases. He often paints abstract portraits in line with Pablo Picasso’s jumbled countenances. He lists Julian Schnabel, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jackson Pollock as inspirations for the frenetic energy of his canvases. Kostabi frequently works with other musicians. He painted live in Times Square during Devo and Jane’s Addiction performances and collaborated with Dee Dee Ramone on paintings. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
