Product description
Bausch & Lomb designed Ray-ban sunglasses for American pilots in 1936. In WWII also this parabolic mirror lens for searchlights of the US armed forces. Small wonder this one stayed in one piece all these years. Etched into the glass is the B & L logo with the USA eagle plus three stars, symbolizing: Army, Navy and Air Force. Furthermore, the production number B 40 43. This lens was in the studio of a Nijmegen artist in polyester for decades and it showed. But the lens was meticulously cleaned, repainted black, fitted with a (loose) base and adequate wiring. An absolutely one-of-a-kind lamp, a statement piece in your home. Has some light scratches (see photos), which you only see when looking straight into it. As a lamp, absolutely not distracting.
The headlight bulb from photo 1 comes with it. Normal, standard E27 fitting.
Overall height: 30 cm. Weight: 9 kg, thickness of the lens 8mm.
Uniqueness/price comparison: no matter how hard Google searches, a second one cannot be found. One comes close, but it has no lamp (hole) in the center, is smaller and costs $1,200 at Unchartered Antiques, Pasadena - California.
Some hair fine scratches and a 2 cm black stripe. See photos.
