Product description
Paolo Buffa ebonized "ladder" chair, Italy 1950's. Buffa's furniture is characterized by its modern yet traditional allure. He was also keen to create furniture with remarkable comfort and elegant curves. Throughout his career, he designed a wide variety of furniture, including the Double Dresser (1960) and the Hotel Bristol armchairs (1953). Biography Paolo Buffa was born in Italy in 1903. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic. After completing his studies and apprenticeship with Gio Ponti, he founded his own architectural practice with A. Cassi Rimelli in 1928. They were responsible for many buildings, but Buffa had a particular attraction for design. The refinement and quality of his pieces are remarkable, appealing to a bourgeois clientele attentive to functionalism and modernism. In 1947, he took part with other designers in the exhibition "The modern style of Furnishing". In 1952, the King of Egypt asked him to design the furnishings for his yacht. Although Paolo Buffa may be somewhat unknown to the general public, he remains a great designer of the twentieth century.
