Pair of green ceramic candle holders from Tamegroute, 19th century. XX – Morocco
Exquisite pair of glazed ceramic vases in Tamegroute, a town located in the valley of the Draa River, in the south of Morocco. Historically it served as a center of learning and religion through its famous Sufi zawiya. These vases feature a wonderful, bright emerald green, characteristic of the authentic craftsmanship of the region. They can be used as candle holders.
Local potters make this ceramic using a traditional technique, a skill that has been passed down from generation to generation. Local clay, tribal tools, handmade brushes and natural pigment paint are used. It is then fired to obtain the glaze of this inspiring enameled earthenware.
