Product description
Born December 16, 1899 in Montbrun-les-Bains (Drôme). His father was a savetier-bottier. In 1904, the family moved to Avignon. While still at school, Colbert Cassan attended the Ecole de Musique and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. At these two Avignon establishments, he won 1st prize for violin in 1913, and 1st prize for drawing and wash in 1914. He enrolled at the Ecole Normale. In 1918, he was appointed teacher at the Lycée Frédéric Mistral in Avignon. For thirty-seven years, by choice, he taught the same 7th grade class. From the 30s onwards, he took part in Avignon's cultural life. In particular, he gave lectures on famous musicians and painters. Edouard Daladier called him in as artistic advisor. He was First Violin in the Avignon Opera orchestra. A jazz enthusiast, he formed his own orchestra, Bambalina's Jazz. His love of opera took him to Salzburg, Milan, Lucerne, Vienna, Paris and above all Bayreuth to attend performances of operas by his favorite composer, Wagner. At the same time, Colbert Cassan spent his weekends painting at his home in Montbrun-les-Bains. He does this for his own personal pleasure, and does not show his canvases. His portraits of musicians, painted over the decades, are undoubtedly his most original and personal work. He died in Sussargues, Hérault, on October 5, 1979. He was an Officer of the Palmes académiques. Price: 580 € Dim 54x65cm Artist: Colbert Cassan (1899-1979) Period: 20th century Style: Other style Condition: Perfect Material: Oil on canvas
