Product description
"Junge reitet mit zwei Ochsen durch die Furt" or "Durchs Wasser", outer dimensions 69 x 47.5 cm, stretcher frame 64 x 42 cm. Signed with monogram: "cop.C.H.", below slightly more to the right, only faintly visible to the naked eye "(H.)Zügel und Datum", . Canvas and stretcher also partly with characters on the reverse and clearly stamped in blue at the bottom as "89" and at the top next to the hanger as "68". The "cop." is an old Latin abbreviation commonly used in painting, derived from copiare. However, the author may have copied his own motif himself (also for study purposes or as a gift) or worked on it as a copy with a pupil. Before my possession, it hung untouched (according to the daughter) for at least 30 years in a Hamburg villa belonging to her father, who died at the age of 91. It should not have taken part in any auctions for at least that long and was probably in a larger collection for a long time before that. The outer frame is still very sturdily attached to the well-preserved stretcher frame and serves as a free bonus. It hangs on my wall ready to live in, see last photo. In the photo detail shots in macro, the colors appear rather distorted in order to bring about a better recognizability.
The outer frame with stronger signs of wear on the sides (see photos) is included free of charge.
