Painter: Ed Dukkers Title: The Mirror Technique: Oil on canvas Format: 103 x 93 cm (incl. picture frame); Size canvas 100 x 90 cm Year: 1982 About Ed Dukkers: Eduard Willem Anton Dukkers was born in Zandvoort on May 1, 1923 and died in Amsterdam in 1996. Dukkers painted, drew and lithographed. Initially he worked in Zandvoort, but from 1940 in Amsterdam. In 1946 Willem Sandberg, director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, selected him for the exhibition " Ten young painters" , which included Appel, Corneille and Rooskens. Like many at the time, Dukker's expressionist tendencies are discernible, but he soon appears to set his goals differently. Literary, surrealist themes have his interest, in which death, eroticism and rituals are closely intertwined. Throughout his oeuvre, man in a general sense takes center stage. From 1985 his work shows an increasing simplification and abstraction.
