Product description
The holy city of Ghom is located around 100 km south of Tehran. Although carpet production only began here around 100 years ago, Qom carpets are considered to be one of the most impressive and valuable examples of fine Persian carpet art in the world. Ghom carpets are made exclusively from the finest raw materials available. Ghom silk is one of the finest silks in the world and the wool used is known as cork wool, a high-quality, particularly lustrous wool with a higher fat content that is sheared from the neck of a lamb. The rugs are either made entirely of natural silk pile and warp threads (sometimes double silk pile) or fine cork wool pile, sometimes with intricate silk detailing. The silk threads used are extremely thin, which allows weavers to use a finer weaving technique, resulting in rugs with a very high knot density and very detailed, intricate patterns.
