Product description
The Knoll Studio Tulip Chair is a classic design by Eero Saarinen. The clutter of table legs and chairs found in most interiors was an eyesore for Saarinen. With the 1957 Tulip Chair, he attempted to make a chair consist of one flowing whole again. Unfortunately, his idea to form the entire chair out of fiberglass proved unfeasible and was therefore eventually made out of two parts: a seat of molded fiberglass reinforced with a layer of plastic and a base of molded aluminum with a Rilsan coating. Despite this, the chair appears to consist of a single piece, reminiscent of a tulip leaf thanks to its wavy forms. An additional advantage of the two separate parts is its flexibility, making the chair fully rotatable. Together with the armchairs and tables, also known as the "Pedestal Collection," the chair is a paragon of 1950s modernism. At the bottom of the base you will find the Knoll logo and Eero Saarinen's signature as proof of authenticity. The Tulip chair is 49 centimeters wide, 81 centimeters high and 53 centimeters deep. The seat height is 47 centimeters. The chair comes in white or black and has different covering options for the seat cushion. Below we have listed some of them for you. Is your preference not among them? Please contact us. The Tulip Chair was first published in 1957 by the American company Knoll Studio, which still has the chair in its collection today. With architect Eliel Saarinen and textile designer Loja Saarinen as parents, Eero was born into a creative designer's nest. He worked at the Cranbrook Campus, where he met Charles Eames. A friendship developed that led to many experiments with materials. Cranbrook is also where he met Florence Knoll, who asked him to design for the company in the 1940s. In addition to the iconic Pedestal series, the Womb Chair came about here.
