China has a long and outstanding carpet tradition. The art of carpet making here dates back to the 15th century. The designs and patterns were originally inspired by Chinese porcelain, landscapes, majestic dragons and other religious symbols. The patterns in China rugs are generally cut in relief, which gives them the typical three-dimensional appearance for which they are famous.
