Julio Le Parc, born in Argentina in 1928, is an Argentinian sculptor and painter of contemporary art. He moved to Paris in 1958. He became a naturalized French citizen in the 1980s. Julio Le Parc's experiments with geometric abstraction, light and perception helped create both Op Art and Art Cinétique. Julio Le Parc's work embraces painting, sculpture, installations... He manipulates chromatic color palettes, negative space and the subtle interplay of light and shadow. Le Parc has embraced utopian ideals throughout his work. In the 60s, alongside artists such as Hugo Demarco and François Morellet, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Yvaral, he co-founded the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel (GRAV). In 1966, he had his first solo show at the Howard Wise Gallery in New York. That same year, he won the Grand Prix for painting at the Venice Biennale. In 1978, the BBC in London produced a documentary on his life and work. In 1987, he won first prize at the International Biennial in Cuenca, Ecuador. Le Parc has exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, São Paulo and Rome.
