The history of Murano glass dates back to the 8th century.
Around the 12th century, Venice had become very popular for beautiful glass products.
To keep the trade in glass products unique and profitable, a law was introduced in 1271 that stated that no foreign glass could be imported for production and no foreign glass workers could be employed.
In the 13th century, all glass production facilities were moved by law from Venice to Murano, because the fire from the kilns posed a major risk to Venice's wooden structures. These two laws ensured that Murano glass is still unique today;
