Beautiful oversized armchair.
The Moooi Smoke Armchair is a design by the Dutch designer Maarten Baas and clearly bears the signature of this idiosyncratic designer. Baas' work is located between art and design and is known for being rebellious, humorous and theatrical.
The Smoke series, of which this armchair is part, is an example of this. The concept of Smoke revolves around different perceptions of beauty. “In nature everything is in motion, which creates a certain beauty. On the other hand, it is just human to want to keep everything as beautiful as possible, as something was always intended,' says Baas. This contradiction forms the basis of Smoke. The designs in the series were burned and the blackened wood was then returned to a usable condition with epoxy resin. In addition, the designs are re-covered when necessary, until they are almost completely back in their original shape.
