Due to an incurable illness, he was forced to adjust his way of working. When the end of his life story suddenly came near, there was a strong urge to depict that story first, not as an illustrator, not as he had always worked, but from life itself, the flowers, the garden, nature, the memory that which was his life.
The limitations of the disease became opportunities to discover a new way of working. It was not possible behind the drawing table, but standing at the easel it was.
And later he carried his drawing pad with him everywhere. Gardening may no longer work, but capturing the opulence in color and shape all the more. There was a new playfulness, which resulted in the painting of household goods.
