Ceramic sculpture "Horse" by Mien Vermeulen. Mien Vermeulen-Naus has been working intensively with ceramics since 1980. She received her training from Henk Sillen at the Free Academy Roermond. And Ed Knops ensured that the Rakustoken no longer holds any secrets for her. To broaden her horizons, Mien Vermeulen crossed the borders to the Academy of Plastic Arts in Genk, Belgium, for the higher degree in ceramic art under the guidance of Lidie Hoewaer. After an intensive training of five years, Mien Vermeulen followed there the specialization degree "glazes and Raku" to further refine her ceramic technique. More than ever, Mien Vermeulen is searching for the essence of ceramics. As an inspired ceramist, she wants to continually rediscover the most earthly material. She gives clay in all its manifestations its own soul through a human act: bringing fire, air, earth and water together in an object. Her works exude the vision of life of a mature woman.
