Very beautiful and large vintage design pendant lamp designed in 1959 by the architects Achille and Pier Gacomo Castiglioni and produced for the famous Italian company Kartell. Model: KD6. Period: 1960s/70s. The lamp consists of one large and two small half-spheres of semi-transparent white plastic and metal fixture. The small hemispheres joined by three screws into one small globe act as a diffuser, hanging inside the large hemispherical bulb. The lamp is in good, original, complete and working condition. Some non disturbing wear to the nickel finish of the metal fixture. Fitting E27. Size: height 30 cm x diameter 50 cm. Cord 85 cm. Kartell is an Italian company that produces contemporary furniture made of plastic. The company was founded in Milan in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli and architect Anna Castelli Ferrieri. Kartell became known for its design work. Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) graduated as an architect in 1945, he then joined the design studio of his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo. He worked mostly with his older brother Pier Giacomo, until the latter's death in 1968. Achille's designs for Kartell, FLOS and Zanotta, among others, are characterized by functionality and unprecedented beauty. Famous examples are the Cocoon pendant lamps and the Taccia and Snoopy table lamps.
