Product description
Vintage Max Laeuger wall plate turquoise with bird and flowers Majolika Karlsruhe 4069.
This vintage wall plate by the German ceramist Max Laeuger is a special piece of art. The plate is made of ceramic and finished with a turquoise glaze with crackle effect. In the middle we see a stylized bird, surrounded by various flowers. The plate has a beautiful sea blue color and hangs perfectly as a work of art on the wall.
Max Laeuger was not a traditional potter, but specialized in ceramic decorations. His early work falls within the Art Nouveau movement and contains many vases and objects with motifs of leaves and flowers. The German contribution to the so-called 'art pottery movement' was quite modest. Laeuger was the most famous figure in this and he won several prizes for his work. He received a gold medal at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris.
In 1916 Max Laeuger took over the former building of the ceramics producer Karlsruher Majolika to create his own studio there. This wall plate was probably produced there in the thirty years that followed. In 1944 — Laeuger is then 80 — he stops working and returns to his hometown of Lörrach.
The wall plate has a loop on which you can hang the item. The back of the plate is marked with the logo of Majolika Karlsruhe and the model number 4069. On the edges of the plate, some brown ceramic shines through the glaze in some places. It is not clear whether this occurred during the manufacturing process or whether it is due to wear and tear. One chip is visible on the back of the base ring.
