Product description
Luis Filcer - Carnival - , oil on canvas. Hand signed/ Beautifully framed. Luis Filcer(Zhytomyr, Ukraine, 1927 - 2018, San Michel de Allende, Mexico) was a Mexican expressionist visual artist. Filcer began his career in Mexico where he had fled with his family in 1928 when he was only 6 months old due to the persecution of the Jewish population after the Russian Revolution. At 16, he began studying at the Academie de San Carlos in Mexico City. He attended classes in the morning and worked on his paintings and drawings in the afternoons. In his artistic practice, Filcer was heavily influenced by the life of Vincent van Gogh and dealt with themes of injustice and struggle in everyday life. He was also an admirer of artists Francisco Goya and José Clemente Orozco. Subjects depicted by Filcer include the 1968 Tlatelolco Massacre, Las Vegas casinos, The Mexican Revolution of 1910 and the Mexico City Metro. Filcer's work does not show idealism but examines law and injustice to provoke change. Filcer lived and worked in the Netherlands for over twenty years, much of it in de Rijp(NH). His work has been exhibited more than 340 times in leading museums and galleries around the world.
